Oli Chignell showed that hard work and determination pays off in winning in the senior men's event at the NZ Cross Country Champs in the weekend.
Heavier rain on the course on Saturday night made a muddy, genuine cross course even muddier. Oli's slight stature and light stepping was made for this course and he took full advantage of this as his competitors fell victim to the sucking mud. In the end Oli won by a comfortable 16 secs over Aucklanders Peter Wheeler (#90) and Cameron Graves (#70)
With the addition of team mates Sam Bremer, Jacob Priddy and Josh Baan, Otago secured the Senior Men's Team silver medal, being beaten by Auckland by 1 point.
Becky Greene in her first outing at the National Cross Country Champs ran well for 3rd place in the senior women's event.
Geoff Anderson secured Gold in the Masters Men 60-64 age group while John Thompson was placed 3rd in the Masters Men 65-69 age group.
Congratulations to you all and your team mates for a successful foray to Wellington
