Cross-country runners are often referred to as “harriers,” which is short for “hare hunters”. In the 1830s, schoolboys in England came up with a game they called Hares and Hounds, or simply “paper chasing.” The boys who were the “hares” would leave before everyone else and drop a trail of paper; the “hounds” would follow. The game mimicked a foxhunt in many ways.
Fast forward to today and organised running groups now chase personal bests or simply run for fitness. The races have evolved to cover a wide variety of terrains from; cross country, trail, mountain & road. Relays & team events are a huge part of Harrier's which cater for a wide variety of people and ages.
The Harrier season is a great way to keep fit, socialise with like minded people as well as complementing other sport or activities members take part in.
